Large leather Gold embossed scrapbook loaded with personal one-of-a-kind photographs and memorabilia of famous Tucsonan Capt. Charles Blenman, Jr. who was the Commander at the U.S. Naval Ordnance Test Station at China Lake, CA. from 1961 to 1964. Interesting section in the scrapbook is a section named project 1.63. Included in this section are photos of President Kennedy visiting the test station to witness the test of a “Sidewinder Missile”. The outstanding object of this collection is a signed letter on White House stationery dated June 14, 1963 writing “I want to thank you for your hospitality to me when I was at China Lake. I thoroughly enjoyed the visit and was very much impressed with the advancements in weapons technology which came from a single laboratory.” With all good wishes, Sincerely, John Kennedy.
Other items included in this lot are a special bronze medallion that was issued for the visit of JFK to the China Lake facility and a few un-mounted photographs. The letter was authenticated by JSA and also comes with the original mailing envelope from the White House.
